Management Responsibilities

As a key member of Client Services team, you will be required to:

1. Identify and report on potential new opportunities arising through your existing clients and your overarching business network.

Integral to the management and growth of the company, you will be required to help with new business opportunities, often meeting potential new clients in chemistry meetings, helping us entertain future business contacts, and taking every opportunity to obtain referrals from our existing client base. As a champion of the AUK, you will be a voice for the agency within the wider business community. You will be required to attend networking events, pitches and industry functions from time to time, and proactively support the senior management team with the new business initiative.

2. Support the Client Services Director to:

a) Implement processes that will optimise our levels of service, and increase profitability.

We are an experienced team but a young company. The processes we have in place and adhere to daily follow the same protocols as most communications agencies. However, as we grow, our processes become an ever more vital component for success. You will be required to help review, input and optimise our internal processes on an ongoing basis, helping us refine our infrastructure, and ensuring that we continue to meet our contractual obligations to our clients. From time to time, these processes will impact and influence other departments and their work method, and you will have the full support of the Client Services Director when it comes to introducing any changes, and ensuring they are adhered to.

b) Help evolve our business services offering

As a communications business, we are continually faced with new challenges and briefs, which will give you the opportunity to evolve and shape the work that we do. Our clients’ needs are vast and variable, rarely constrained by department and often engrained into their infrastructure. As an integrated business, you have a duty to help our clients realise the potential in their brand, whilst also focussing on the tactical business as usual deliverables. As Account Director, recognising opportunities where we can add value is key, and with every case study you will have a further opportunity to input, evolve and define our service offering.

c) Help develop members of the Client Services team

As an addition to the above point, your responsibility will lie in helping to develop junior members of the Client Services team and carry out regular assessments of their capabilities to meet client needs.

Business-As-Usual Responsibilities

1. Capitalise on all opportunities for business growth with new and existing clients

As part of BAU operations, you will get to know and understand your clients’ businesses and their wider market. Learn to recognise opportunities within the existing client base, make recommendations, and when necessary assemble a project team within the business to help scope and deliver new work streams.

2. Work with the Client Services Director to help manage, forecast and report on sales targets, revenue

generation and budgets You will be responsible for helping the Client Service Director report to the senior management team.

Accurate monthly forecasts and projected revenue opportunities are vital to help inform business decisions. You will define your own method for best building the relationship with our clients, and in doing so obtain the full support of the Client Services Director.

3. Maintain and where possible increase profitability across our client base

The measure for profitability is paramount when assessing business performance. However, as an independently owned business we recognise and support the need for re-investment into our existing clients, and as Account Director you will advise on the opportunity and level of investment required to help swell our existing client’s contribution.

4. Negotiate with clients and suppliers regarding budgets

Working with the Client Services Director, you will have remit to meet, select and roster suppliers on an asneeded basis. You will also be required to flag partnership opportunities and new service offerings for consideration by the senior management team as and when they arise.

5. Understand AUK’s project delivery process and internal sign-off procedure and ensure we always adhere to our contractual obligations.

6. Under promise and over deliver for our clients. As an agency, we lead by increasing our competitive advantage across everything we do!

Project Management Specifics

Delivering projects in time and on budget is essential for AUK’s reputation. As a senior member of the Client Services department, the Account Director will support the Client Services Director by taking responsibility for the teams output, including:

1. Manage and prioritise work streams

Help scope new projects, and actively take on work streams and delegate deliverables within each. The role of Account Director is both strategic and project management.

2. Planning briefs + strategy project management

Help understand, define and pen the requirements of our clients, successfully formulating project briefs and assembling the relevant teams, ensuring there are clear on their deliverables and meet their work/time obligations.

3. Creative briefs + creative project management

Working alongside the account management, planning and creative team, you will be required to help understand, define and contextualise the creative requirements and deliverables for your clients, ensuring you gain the clients sign off and support throughout the creative process, advising and helping the internal teams during each project, presenting our thoughts and findings with the relevant internal teams, and ensuring the subjectivity that regularly surrounds creativity is limited.

4. Timing plans

As part of the project management role, you will be required to develop, review and update the project timing plans, for individual projects as well as large scale deliveries encompassing multiple work streams over a number of months.

5. Client meetings / status reports / contact reports / budgets & estimates

Supported by junior members of the Client Services team.

6. Supplier appointment and existing supplier management

7. Overall client satisfaction

It is the responsibility of the Account Director to ensure complete client satisfaction, or report to the Client Services Director on the reason why client dissatisfaction might be an acceptable outcome. AUK does not always offer clients everything they want, we work in the dual interest of client and agency, and building an open and honest relationship based on sound commercial principles is a basic requirement for this role.

Person specification

As Account Director, you will be the second most senior person in the Client Services team. You will be reporting directly to the Client Services Director. Your primary role is to support the Client Services Director and senior management team, be a reference point for your clients and be the interface between them and the internal agency departments, ensuring smooth, efficient and profitable delivery of all communications work streams in your account group.

You will be required to develop exceptionally strong relationships with our clients, rising to a position of complete trust and accountability, using your relationship to deliver exceptional and relevant work, as well as identifying future business opportunities and work streams. The role of Account Director is vital to the growth of AUK and our client base.
